What Actually Breaks HVAC Citations
“St.” vs. “Street,” and Other Small-Format Drift
Even small formatting discrepancies, “St.” on one directory and “Street” on another, or a suite number present on some listings and missing on others, split the trust signal a search engine builds around your address. It rarely looks like an error to a human, but it reads as two different businesses to the systems matching listings together.
An Old Phone Number Still Live Somewhere
A previous phone number, or a call-tracking number from an old ad campaign, left live on even one directory is one of the most common sources of confused or lost calls. It’s worth a periodic sweep specifically looking for numbers that are no longer in use.
License Number Left Blank or Inconsistent
Many home-service directories, and virtually all HVAC-specific ones, ask for a license number as a trust field. Leaving it blank on some listings while filling it in on others, or letting an expired or renumbered license persist somewhere, undercuts the exact credibility citations are supposed to build.
